A native child of Georgia, Delores grew up in
beautiful McIntosh County. She is married to Randall and is a proud mother of
two daughters. Rochella and Aundrea, who together have blessed her with 8 "grands."
Artistically multi-talented, Delores is first
known for her lovely seashell creations which have not only won awards, but also
have been featured in different art galleries.
Not content with just one artistic
accomplishment, Delores, challenged and encouraged by another MAA member, local
artist Patty Skipper, decided to try her hand at painting on canvas. Under the
tutelage of local art instructor, Lynda Strean, Delores developed and honed
another talent.
Painting on canvas and on ceramics are not
mutually exclusive endeavors. One activity being the subset of the other.
However, first Delores must produce the ceramic pieces, which unlike her other
products are perfectly made.
So that her artistic life does not become too
tedious, Delores acquired yet another skill-sweet grass basket weaving. Her
teacher of this expressive mode was none other than the well-known Sapelo Island
resident, Yvonne Grovner.
Delores' natural ability in the art of weaving
is obvious when you inspect her sweet grass baskets. They are all flawless!
Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue awarded her a certificate for completing the
Georgia Council for the Arts Apprenticeship Program. The Georgia Council for the
Arts' goal is the preservation of our State's folk art culture.
Numerous individuals have inspired Delores along
her artistic journey. One in particular has been Orena Hyers who told her she
should nurture and develop her desire to create by using her hands together with
her imagination.
However, Delores' primary muse has always been
Matthew 25:15 "And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to
another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straitway took
his journey." |
