American Pharoah won the race but the best in show and most creative hat awards went to Jeanne Leonard and Kaye Trayer at the annual MAA Derby Party at Clay’s Sapelo Station. Nood Lawler, a Kentuckian, kicked off the event by leading the attendees in singing “My Old Kentucky Home.” Partygoers sipped on mint juleps and dined on traditional favorites including tomato sandwiches, local shrimp and those famous bourbon balls and derby pie. Race fans had the opportunity to bet on the horses and bid on the wide array of art offered through the silent action. All proceeds go to support MAA.
